A Holiday Inspired Illustration

I haven’t posted a blog for far too long. I know I shouldn’t complain, but I’ve just been far too busy to do anything about it. Over Easter though I’ve taken a few days out and spent a long weekend in Cornwall with my other half and my family. We had a really great time camping, the weather was good to us, and I realised how much I actually needed a holiday. For one reason or another I haven’t taken any real time off for about two and a half years.

I arrived back home inspired by my break in the very picturesque Cornwall and in particular with the enjoyment of the camping experience itself. As a person who likes to improve themselves I thought I’d try something I haven’t done in a while. Illustration!

So having spent a good few nights huddled round the old oil lamp in the comfort of our tent, I thought I’d do a holiday inspired illustration. This is what I came up with.

Shanty Poster with Illustration

I’m really pleased with the outcome, the sketchy style (a new one for me!) and the colour scheme seem very pleasing on the eye, and very cool and modern - even if I do say so myself. After I’d completed the lamp I decided to kill two birds with one stone and have a go at using it for a flyer design. I was impressed with the the quaint harbour towns and their history and worked my illustration into a flyer advertising a Shanty Evening (N.B. A shanty is an old sea song, sung by sailors, smugglers, and pirates!) Ah-argh, me hearties!

Anyway, let me know what you think, and if there’s any prospective clients that would like to discuss illustration any further, please get in touch. This style would be particularly effective during the credit crunch, as this poster only took about two and a half hours to complete. Obviously, it all depends on the complexity of the illustration; but this one was quite simple.
