Over the weekend, I was talking with a friend of mine who is a computer technician and he told me about a bit of software called LogMeIn. It’s a great little program for those of us who are on the move. It allows you to login to your computer at home from anywhere in the world, provided your home computer is turned on and connected to the internet, and the local computer you are using is also connected to the net.
The software is free, easy to install, and is both mac and pc compatible. It basically allows you to access your desktop, files, software, etc from any web browser just as if you were sitting in front of the computer at home. It’s a little slow, but that’s to be expected. Well worth a look, and it could come in useful when you’ve forgotten that all important file you needed.

I tried this a couple of years ago and found it too slow and not much use for what I wanted it for and so canceled it straight away.
I wanted proper remote access where you could literally work as normal on your own machine, but really it was only any good for say if you wanted to do something simple or grab a file.
You couldn’t work in it all day or anything.
I should point out however that this was a couple of years ago when my connection speed was something like 2MB and now it’s up to 10MB, so on a higher connection it might just work fine now.
When you say it’s a little slow - I’d be interested to know what connection speed you are on at the moment.
Hi Amanda,
I’m certainly not suggesting it’s use as a complete solution, but it’s free so I guess their server traffic is fairly high compared with a paid service.
I find it can come in useful though when you’ve forgotten to do something like make a copy of a file, or send an email to someone who’s address you cant remember off the top of your head, etc… It’s not perfect, but it might solve some of those little but annoying problems found with being on the road.
great post hope to see some additional comments next Monday…adios
