As some of you will know I’ve been working on my new company identity and website for a while now…. Ok, ok, it’s been an eternity. If you are a designer you’ll know that designing something for yourself can be a pain in the backside, with the inevitable create-hate create-hate create-hate problem that all designers struggle with.
So after much deliberation and about five or six designs further down the road I come up with yet another design that I am happy with, this time for my stationary. It’s not perfect, but the concept is there and only minor tweaks are required. So instead of sitting on it for a week and then deciding I don’t like it, I sent copies of my stationary design around to some friends, family, business acquaintances, and clients to get their thoughts. I obviously don’t have any problems designing things for my clients that I like, so I thought I’d get a whole host of people to be my clients. I got some good feedback and I think I have finally got a theme to build into my web design.
So now, hopefully, in the next few weeks I’ll be speaking to my web designer about slicing and dicing my images to build my website for me! FINALLY! I just hope I don’t spend a shed load of cash on it and then decide I don’t like it again. I have real work to do, I don’t need to be designing a new website for myself once a week on top of that!
I’ve also been working on several blog articles that will go live, along with the website. I’ll also need to bring my blog design inline with my web design so that they sit well together.
I’m not giving too much away now, but I hope you like stripes and cyan blue.
Hopefully, fingers crossed, we’ll be up and running and online again in the very near future.
For now, just sit tight, and I’ll post another blog when it’s gone live. Thanks to everyone who has given me advice and feedback on my own designs.

Matt, I completely hear you on the website thing.
I’ve been holding myself back from redesigning my website for over a week now. I even started to design a new page and then slapped myself and told myself to stop.
I’m basically in a torment where I really want to do it, but the sensible side of me is telling me that I’m not allowed until the end of the year at the very earliest.
I’m very busy at the moment, there is nothing wrong with my site and I’m just wasting valuable time if I start on a whole new design and layout.
But saying that I’m thinking I want to have a go at making a media video or tutorial/inspirational style video and my current site design won’t fit a video on the homepage very well…hmmm… the longer I wait the more I get the burning urgency for a video on my site.
It starts to consume my every thought throughout the day and presses on my mind whilst I try to do other ‘actual’ work!
I cannot control my obsession with doing new things with my website. I guess it’s the visual front to my business and my own creativity and I can’t bear it when I don’t feel it’s offering what I want it to offer viewers in terms of visuals and experiences.
Designers eh - never satisfied. I generally rush out the completion of designs for myself so that they are complete before I can change my mind, which is why it is a good thing that you sent your printing off fast. I bet anything a month from now you will hate that stationery, ha ha!
A video would be really cool, but couldnt you just implement it into your blog, or make a seperate page on your site, or even house it in a pop-up window? I think that would suffice until you got a new design sorted.
Yeah, I’m glad I sent my stationary straight off to the printers - I hope it comes back ok. I was fairly disappointed that my printer can only do UV spot on one side of the card.
I’m pressing on with the web design now, hopefully it will turn out ok and I’ll be happy to leave it like that for a while.
